Introduction

StarChapter will set your chapter up with a single administrator username and password when your site is in implementation.  You can distribute these credentials to the rest of your board, but we strongly recommend creating individual logins for board members instead.  Following these and other best practices for site administration offer some advantages:

  • Increased security. Admin users can be restricted to only certain areas of the site, keeping board members with smaller areas of responsibility out of sections that don't pertain to them.

  • Password retrieval. Admin usernames can be set up with a single corresponding e-mail address to be used for password retrieval. This process doesn't work if multiple people use the same username.

  • Clear division of responsibilities. Sometimes one board member ends up doing everything. Setting login access for each board member makes it clear what they're expected to do.

  • Change logging. Certain changes are tracked within StarChapter based on the administrator's username. If multiple people use the same login, it's impossible to see who it was that made a change.
